Visiting Domaine Jean Vaudoisey is a breath of fresh air, run as it is by the Poirotte brothers who took over the Domaine from their grandfather whilst in their early 20s. Having lived away from Burgundy for most of their lives, returning for holidays and harvest time, they came to the Domaine with a clean sheet, determined to make the best wines possible from their various plots but without the fettering of history to hold them back. These are wines which display an understated stroke of genius, with no grand flourishes but just a quiet naturalness which will, we have no doubt, make the Poirotte brothers future stars.

Amazingly deep in colour with a nose of glorious black cherry fruit, lightly grilled wth crème pâtissière notes and then red fruits – red cherry, redcurrant – with some black cherry in the fruit basket and a hint of exotic spice, cloves. On the palate, fabulous substantial black fruit, rich and intense, layered with oak, soft in the mid palate before coming back with a firm, mineral twist of tannin towards the end, evolving as it is swirled around the mouth and going to a really long, fresh, tight finish.
