Deep red to the rim, quite intense, with a nose of savoury red fruits, rich and classically 2020 in style, with a cocoa bean note behind. On the palate, big black currant fruit, again dark chocolate and even a hint cassis, smooth with fine bite of ripe tannins yet still fresh with a good crunch, this will drink well now and for the next few years.

Visiting Domaine Chevrot on the day before they held an open weekend for the general public, we were tasting their young 2020s in amongst a developing tropical paradise – a little disconcerting but it didn’t distract in any way from the wines themselves. With a small 2020 harvest, particularly for reds, and a shocker in 2021 for both colours, Pablo Chevrot decided to release his 2020s later in 2022 so that he could balance his stocks for the two vintages across the two years.
