With his 2.5 hectares, Rémi Poisot’s cellar is never particularly full (never has it been more depressing than in recent vintages) but our visit this autumn was positively joyous! Barrels on more than one layer, 13 barrels of Corton Charlemagne alone (compared to 1.5 barrels in 2021) – so much stock that Rémi had to put some into another part of the cellar, a part we have never seen used. For lovers of his wines, this is an hallelujah vintage! The availability of second hand barrels on the market has been a real issue for Rémi as he has very few older barrels of his own given the past small harvests, and he has had to use more new wood than he would like, but we found that the ripeness of the fruit masked the additional oak and the wines seem more than capable of coping with it.

50 year old vines. Vibrant purple red, truly alive with a nose of ripe black fruit, some cedar and tar, spiced with a note of fresh tobacco, really alluring, leading to a palate of big, creamed black fruits, almost chocolatey in their smoothness, again this note of cedar and tar, juicy yet restrained too, tight with a luscious, super-fruited finish with the tannins completely masked by the fruit. This needs a bit of time but will drink early too. Drink 2024 - 2028+
