Château Pindefleurs, Grand Cru St Emilion Magnums 2018

Knowing how the Moueix family aim to reflect terroir and respect vintage character in their wines, our tasting with them is always one of the most important moments of the Bordeaux primeur week each Spring. Having seen Edouard Moueix regularly since the harvest, we were very aware of an undercurrent of excitement about their 2018s and when we tasted the wines we could see why. A huge depth of fruit is underscored by super-ripe, supple tannins and, despite Merlot’s propensity to race up the alcohol scale, all the wines have a freshness and elegance which we found missing in many other places; there is a lot of power in their wines yet it is beautifully restrained.
