Fitou Cuvée Tradition, Domaine de la Rochelierre 2020

Red | France | Regional France | 14.5% | Full-bodied red

Fitou, just under an hour from the Spanish border, saw immense success in the 1980s with their delicious fruit-forward, juicy reds before all but disappearing from the international wine scene. In 1998 Jean-Marie Fabre took over the running of the family property, Domaine de la Rochelierre; focusing on the vineyards, he is making some truly exciting wines.

The Cuvée Tradition is a blend of Carignan, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, produced entirely in stainless steel to allow the full expression of the fruit. With sweet and tarry black fruits and a hint of thyme and rosemary, this is so evocative of the land it comes from and takes you straight there.

"Attitude" was the first note I wrote. This is a wine with bags of personality, gutsy, powerful, packed with juicy plums, blackberries, spice, dark chocolate, and thyme, and delivering wonderful freshness. Made from Carignan, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, and produced in stainless steel, this is the pure expression of the vineyard and the perfect Autumn wine at a great price-for-value ratio." Sarah Kemp, The Wine Conversation (follow @thewineconversation for great podcasts!)

"From the hills of Mediterranean France just an hour north of the Spanish border, this deeply flavoured and scented red blend sings of its origins in the purest voice with garrigue herbs, pepper and dusky blackberry fruit. A superb value alternative to Châteauneuf du Pape." David Williams, Observer Wine, 14.11.2021
