Burgundy Meurgey Croses

Pierre Meurgey, a native Burgundian, is the fourth generation in a family of passionate Burgundy winemakers and has routes from both Macon and Beaune; in the latter serving as a director of operations for a well-known negotiant.

Vinification

Pierre is deeply committed to the methods of his region. He describes that he is “entrenched in my region and committed to the specificity of the “Climats de Bourgogne”, I vinify, I tend and I bottle in my cellars with the care of the craftsman concerned about respect of the Terroirs”. Furthermore, he works with a single winegrower by appellation in order to control the timing, conditions of harvest and transport to the vat house. He looks for precision, purity and freshness in his wines. Alcoholic fermentation and aging take place in tanks, 400 or 600 litre barrels or in oak barrels of 228 litres depending on the appellation.

Wine

Pierre offers a range of white and reds, in the case of his Pouilly Fuissé vielles vignes, the vines are between 55 and 95 years old, a pretty venerable age by any standards. They come from six different sites around the appellations, some of which will become premier cru when the new designations come to life with the 2020 vintage. 100% barrel fermented with a smidgeon of new oak, this is creamed and rich yet elegant with a lovely citrus note behind; the grilled oak is visible but wonderfully integrated, underscoring the lovely long, racy finish.
