Being unable to travel easily beyond our own shores has resulted in a dramatic increase in interest in our homegrown sparkling wines. This can only be a good thing as most of the wineries offer superb experiences beyond the obvious cellar tour and tasting, from fine dining to evening vineyard walks to see the wildlife. Ambriel, where our very own Laura Taylor worked the 2020 harvest, offers a perfect insight into the life in a Sussex winery and we can’t recommend their wines too highly.

Pink fizz can be made either by blending red and white base wines or, as at Ambriel, by using 100% red grapes (here Pinot Noir) and allowing a very small amount of colour to leach into the free run juice. This luminously pale rosé is redolent of raspberry and wild strawberries, deliciously fragrant and light, with a lovely citrus end note. Wonderfully refreshing. Available by the case of six only.
