Château Cissac, Haut-Médoc 2020

Red | France | Bordeaux | 13% | Medium-bodied red

57.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 4.5% Petit Verdot. Yield 21 hl/ha.

Owned by the Vialard family since 1895, Cissac lies just to the west of Pauillac and St Estèphe, on one of the highest points in the Médoc – a grand 27.5 metres above sea level. Here, although Cabernet Sauvignon dominates, there is a relatively high percentage of Merlot giving the wine a roundness and suppleness to counterbalance the stricter Cabernet tannins. This always offers some of the best value for money in our primeur campaigns, with the 2020 price equating to less than £14 per bottle all in at today’s rates – outstanding!

Dense purple black with a gloriously intense nose; cedar, spice, black fruits, some oak but lots of spiced fruits, really alluring with blueberries and plums, leading to a palate of big black fruits, perfumed blueberries, violets too, with substantial supple tannins behind and going to a long, fruited, grilled finish. This really is great value.
