Bourgogne Rouge, Domaine Chevrot 2023

Red | France | Burgundy | 13% | Full-bodied red

From declassified Marange Villages vines on the lower slopes; all barrel aged but with no new wood and bottled just before the harvest. Lovely ruby red, limpid, with rich red berry fruit on the nose, very primary and pure with a hint of red cherry and a light leafy touch, leading to a super pretty palate with lovely juicy fruit, leafy and pure, with light, supple tannins and a mouth-wateringly fresh finish. This will give immense pleasure whilst waiting for other toys to become drinkable. Drink 2025 - 2027

Pablo Chevrot was in fine form when we visited him, with another abundant harvest about to be bottled and conveniently glossing over the difficulties of the 2024s which once again challenged their organic orthodoxy as they had to make so many passes through the vines. Serendipitously they had changed their press from the traditional Vaslin press to a larger pneumatic press for the 2023 harvest which allows them to process more fruit at a time with less exposure to air, and they were thrilled with the results.
