Our first visit on our Tuscan Tour of the Terroirs, and one of the highlights of the trip, was to Podere 414. Simone was away (accepting an award in Milan, so we can’t blame him) but we were looked after beautifully by his wife Mara and their viticulturist and winemaker; everything fell into place and, having visited the vineyards and tasted the wines, it was a real struggle to get the group to move.

Pale limpid red with a nose of juicy, almost yeasty red fruits, very alluring, with a light cedary back note, floral, light black cherry, really juicy with a hint of tar. On the palate fresh red fruits, again a light cedary / tarry note, nicely tart and refreshing, fruity too, not as structured as some other years and as a result will drink beautifully early – and it would be delicious chilled too.
