Gevrey Chambertin, Domaine Lucien Boillot 2020

Red | France | Burgundy | 13.5% | Full-bodied red

Deep intense red black with a nose of grilled black cherries and vanillin, really overt and rich with some cooked fruit behind, so appealing, following through to a similar palate, rich, intense, with grilled black and red fruits, super-rich with big tannins behind, gorgeously ripe and supple, mineral, and focused going to a lovely, long, complex finish. Drink 2024 - 2028+

The Boillot name appears in many forms in both the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits; the family history is complicated but at least friendly, which is not always the case in Burgundy. Pierre Boillot inherited his Gevrey vineyards from his father’s side of the family – Domaine Lucien Boillot – and his Volnay, Pommard and Puligny vineyards from his grandfather, Henri Boillot. He worked with his cousin Jean-Marc Boillot on his eponymous domaine until he broke away in 2003 to reinvigorate the Domaine Lucien Boillot name.
