Bourgogne Rouge Côte d’Or, Domaine Joseph Roty 2020

Red | France | Burgundy | 13% | Full-bodied red

From two parcels in Marsannay, Champsforey and Lautier, which could also be bottled as Marsannay. Dense in colour with a vinous nose of raw black fruits, damson and sloe with notes of rock rose behind. Big black fruits on the palate, really intense and perfumed with well-integrated tannins, spiced and with satisfying balance on the long finish. A powerhouse for the appellation. Drink 2024 - 2030

The Domaine has 15 hectares of vines in total, split almost evenly between the communes of Gevrey Chambertin and Marsannay, predominantly planted to Pinot Noir with small amounts of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and, from 2022, Aligoté. Farming here combines organic and biodynamic principles (particularly with regard for lunar phases for vineyard work and cellar operations) but the Domaine is certified for neither – Pierre-Jean Roty says they follow what they know works rather than adopting new trends.
