Technical Sheet |
Helmut Dönnhoff believes that exceptional wines require exceptional vineyards and, as a result, the majority of their family vineyards are located on grand cru sites. An old name in the Nahe, the Dönnhoff vineyards have been built up over the past half century, from just four hectares when Helmut took over the family estates to 28 hectares today. In 2007, Helmut handed over the reins to his son, fourth generation Cornelius, who continues his father’s pursuit of vibrancy, purity and quality.
Riesling is king in the Nahe, making up 80% of the Dönnhoff vineyards, the balance being Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, and their aim is to reflect their wide variety of soils which range from classic slate and loam to volcanic derived soils like porphyry. This Oberhäuser Leistenberg comes from steep, slate-dominated slopes.

Intense on the nose with notes of rose petal and white stone fruit, very floral, leafy and fresh, with a finely structured balance, this is so gorgeous right now, but equally it will evolve for several years to come.
